Fr. Evan ~ God's energies 'uncreated'
Father Evan here does a fine job of discussing God's energies on the radio broadcast. I think it is around the 50min to 60min mark. He uses the analogy of fire to describe how the fire's energies can transform steel by heating and giving it light, but the steel itself never becomes fire. It is transformed by the fire but does not become fire. Sort of like how God's uncreated energies or grace transform man and give warmth and light, but man never participates in God's essence the same way the steel never becomes fire. What happens is that man experiences God via his energies and becomes transformed like the steel, illumined. So while man does not directly participate in God's essence, he can directly participate in God' energies. And therefore, direct communion with God. This was further parceled out by St. Gregory Palamas.
