podcast: Christianity and Philosophy?: part 3 by Fr. Gabriel
"Among us, of course it's Always been as much a matter
of the heart as of the mind."
"The big difference between eastern and western
understandings of theology has to do with the difference in ecclesiology as
well. That is to say in our understanding of the church. If the church is an
organization to understand God, which is how the tradition worked out in the
west, then theology, is obviously, going to be understood differently than if
church is a therapeutic community, a place where we are healed, where we are
made whole, you see, where we are united body and soul, where the sensory apparatus
get as much credence as does the intellectual. In this case, theology is more
comprehensive, more holistic and presents God in a healing manner rather than
seeing God as a topic of reasoning. To put it simply, faith in God is not a
matter of intellectual belief as sometimes you seem to hear among our
protestant brothers and sisters. Faith is really a matter of participation in a
healing process, a striving toward a life that is promised to be life eternal
or abundant life in the words of the holy evangelist John."
